SHED Architecture & Design was tasked to redevelop a building in a historical area of Seattle to meet the needs of the neighborhood’s changing commercial landscape. The firm designed an exterior stairwell with non-rated curtain wall to flood light into the new space. The challenge came with connecting that light safely through the old buildings exterior while meeting modern fire- and life-safety building code requirements.
