The building envelope is increasingly being called to deliver more: more access to daylight, better thermal performance, and a higher resistance to life safety threats. To support these goals while elevating design, modern façade materials and systems have evolved to expand what the building envelope can do. This course introduces several modern façade solutions, including steel and timber curtain walls, fire-rated curtain walls, and channel glass systems. After this session concludes, attendees will be equipped to evaluate and specify high-performance glazing systems that support both creative vision and project performance goals, including structural integrity, visual impact, and code compliance.

Fire-rated glazing has evolved beyond 100 square-inch vision panels in fire doors. These materials can now create floor-ceiling wall panels, transparent temperature-rise doors, exterior curtain walls and even support building hardening efforts. With the vast array of offerings available, it may be difficult for design teams to know their options or how a system may solve complex building challenges. Starting with an overview of fire-rated glazing and shifting to more nuanced design goals, this course will provide a starting point for advanced fire-rated design by leveraging expert knowledge and real-world examples of boundary pushing uses of fire-rated glass.
1 LU/HSW Hour
This course offers an in-depth look into fire-rated glass and framing systems and their role in fire protection.
1 LU/HSW Hour
This course offers an overview of modern fire-rated glass and framing systems and answers common, fire-rated glazing questions from the design community. Topics include: product testing standards, fire-rated glazing classifications, code changes, multifunctional systems and how fire-rated glazing can be used within the built environment.
1 LU/HSW Hour
This course offers an in-depth look into multifunctional fire-rated glazing in school design.
1 LU/HSW Hour
This course will primarily focus on fire-resistive glass and framing, and ways in which five of the latest innovations are changing the future of fire-rated glass and framing.
