Our Facilities
At Technical Glass Products (TGP), we believe sustainability begins where building products are manufactured. This is why our facilities are designed to be more environmentally friendly and our commitment to improving the sustainability of our operations. These steps, in conjunction with our product declarations, support a more robust approach to sustainability.
MANUFACTURING FACILITIES
SNOQUALMIE, WA
TGP’s Facility in Snoqualmie, Washington, Takes Multiple Paths to Lower Environmental Impact
Not only does TGP’s Snoqualmie facility feature extensive use of our own glazing systems, it is designed to be sustainable and operates in a way to reduce the environmental impact of glazing manufacturing. These goals are achieved through LEED certification, participation in green power initiatives and sponsoring more sustainable transportation programs. These three paths represent a significant reduction in environmental impact.
Certified LEED®-CI GOLD
In addition to minimizing energy consumption with state-of-the-art electrical design and HVAC systems, our Snoqualmie location also includes the following environmental features:
Diverts 96% of construction waste from landfills.
Maximizes the use of outside light to reduce energy consumption and lighting requirements.
Reduces water consumption by 43% with low-flow water fixtures and by using 100% reclaimed water for all irrigation.
Provides healthy indoor air by using low VOC materials to achieve ventilation rates 34% above standard construction.
Participates in Puget Sound Energy’s Green Power program
TGP’s Snoqualmie-based location matches 100% of our electricity with regional renewable energy, lowering our carbon footprint and supporting local renewable energy projects including Swauk Wind in Ellensburg, WA, and Neal Hot Springs in Vale, OR.
Transit Program
TGP sponsors community transit programs for all team members to help reduce the number of vehicles on the road each day. This program supports a comprehensive approach to sustainable manufacturing. By helping team members find more environmentally friendly commute options, TGP continues to reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing
PERRYSBURG, OH
TGP’s Facility in Perrysburg, Ohio, Achieves 100% Landfill Waste Diversion
Since July 2024, TGP’s Perrysburg, Ohio, facility has attained 100 percent waste diversion from landfills by recycling and reusing all the manufacturing waste. This achievement marks a crucial step in our commitment to advancing sustainability within the building construction industry. The path to complete waste diversion began with a strong foundation of recycling.
Prior to 2022, TGP recycled about 70 percent of the production waste through different routes. Building on this success, and with help from Envita Solutions, we implemented targeted solutions for the remaining waste streams, including wood from crates, polystyrene foam, wastewater sludge and general trash.
Crates to Mulch
TGP works with a local landscaping company to convert the wooden crates used to contain the glass from our glazing assemblies into mulch, giving new life to the material.
Polystyrene Foam for Packing
Used as a packing material to hold glass lites during shipment, polystyrene foam’s volume posed significant challenges in landfills. To address this issue, we invested in a specialized shredding machine to process scrap foam. By creating a closed-loop solution, the shredded polystyrene foam is now repurposed as protective packaging for TGP’s boxed orders.
Waste-to-Energy
For the remaining materials such as wastewater sludge and general waste, there were no direct recycling routes to be found. But after continued efforts to find possible pathways, we came across Reworld™. They helped us convert the wastewater sludge and general waste into electrical power through waste-to-energy technology. This innovative approach ensured that even non-recyclable materials contribute to sustainable energy production rather than ending up in landfills.
LOOKING AHEAD
Both TGP facilities have taken steps to reduce and offset the environmental impact of glass manufacturing. These achievements represent just one chapter in TGP’s sustainability journey. As leader in the industry, we recognize that environmental responsibility is on-going improvement process. To keep making strides in that direction, we are actively exploring innovative ways to reduce our impact on the planet, challenge our own benchmarks and demonstrate new ways to support the creation of a more sustainable built environment.
