Glossary Fire-RatedThe time, in minutes or hours, that materials or assemblies can be expected to prevent flames and smoke from spreading. Heat BarrierBlocks radiant and conductive heat transfer from one side of the glass to the other. A required characteristic of glass used as a wall. Hose Stream TestedIn the U.S., the hose stream test is required for all fire ratings over 45 minutes (all fire ratings require it in Canada). Immediately following a furnace test, heated glass is subjected to water from a fire hose. The cooling, impact and erosion created by the hose stream tests the integrity of the glass and eliminates inadequate materials. Positive PressurePositive Pressure testing UL 10C, UBC 7-2 and UBC 7-4 more closely simulates real fire conditions. As heat develops within the source area, pressure within an enclosed room begins to build relative to the pressure outside the room. The pressure continues to increase until the availability of oxygen relative to fuel causes the fire to reach equilibrium. In the positive pressure zone, smoke and hot gases and flames are forced through any openings in the door or window assembly.

The patent pending, fire-rated toggle retention system allows for rapid installation of fire-rated Pilkington Pyrostop® glass while being completely hidden once installed. These features, combined with narrow steel frames allow high strength, clean sightlines and up to 90 minutes of fire resistance. Fabricated in the United States, Fireframes SG Curtainwall Series frames are listed and labeled with UL and ULC.
