New Fire-Rated Glazing Option in Pilkington Pyrodur20™

TGP is now offering Pilkington Pyrodur20™ - a fire-rated glazing material that makes it easier than ever to fill orders for 20-minute fire-rated products.

Typical 20-minute fire-rated materials are tempered, requiring final sizes to be produced at the tempering factory rather than in the field or by a distributor. As a result, those products need to be ordered on a project-by-project basis. Unlike tempered products, Pyrodur20 can be stocked, cut-to-size and labeled locally, for more immediate delivery.

Pyrodur20 incorporates the same technology found in Pilkington Pyrostop™. A special interlayer in the glass foams up during a fire, helping to block the passage of flames and smoke while at the same time reducing radiant heat. In addition to carrying a 20-minute fire rating, Pyrodur20 satisfies the impact safety requirements of CPSC 16CFR1201 (Category I).

"We're always looking for new fire-rated glazing solutions," stated Jerry Razwick, president of Technical Glass Products. "Pyrodur20 gives glaziers and architects a permanently labeled alternative with the advantage that it can be cut-to-size by distributors - making for quicker delivery."

Pilkington Profilit™ Earns Distinguished Degree

Architectural Record recently ran a feature on university construction across the country and Pilkington Profilit™ was utilized in two of the four projects highlighted with first-class results.

The Seminar II Building at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA, is a new "green" academic building by Mahlum Architects which features the glass channel product. School officials wanted the structure to be flexible and sustainable, incorporating daylighting and natural ventilation and preserving the natural setting.

Pilkington Profilit is a natural fit, as it takes advantage of borrowed daylight, thus reducing the need for artificial lighting. It is available in a variety of colors and textures with varying translucency, and works well with the environment and surroundings. View the full Architectural Record article.

Harvard University's Science Center expansion project was designed by Leers Weinzapfel Associates and utilizes Pilkington Profilit™ to create an elegant and light-filled addition atop the 1970's building. View the full Architectural Record article.

GlassBuild America Sparks Interest in TGP Products

As the new U.S. distributor for Pilkington Profilit™, TGP featured this exciting alternative to glass block and other translucent materials at GlassBuild America, September 13 - 15 in Atlanta. Visitors to the booth had the opportunity to learn more about this unique product, as well as the many creative applications that come along with it.

In addition, TGP showcased the popular FireLite® family of products, Pilkington Pyroshield™ Plus and Fireframes® line of fire-rated framing products. Samples of Pilkington Pyrostop™ were on hand which had been subjected to the bullet resistance test and also a furnace fire test.

"We had a terrific show this year," stated Jerry Razwick, president of TGP, "there was a great deal of interest in Pilkington Profilit as well as our traditional fire-rated lines."
